On Sep 8th, the meeting to commend role models in China’s fight against the COVID-19 epidemic was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Doctor Zhang Weining, a thoracic surgeon from XD Group Hospital, Genertec Universal Medical Group Company Limited (“Universal Medical”, HK.2666) attended the meeting and was presented a medal as “Outstanding Individual to Fight against Epidemic”.

Other honored units and individuals from Genertec also include China Meheco Group Co., Ltd.(中国医药健康产业股份有限公司), a brother company of Universal Medical, and Mr. Zhuang Xiaoxiong, chairman of the board of China Textile Academy (中国纺织科学研究院有限公司).

The outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic made Wuhan the front position of China’s fight. Thousands of UM medical staff asked for a battle assignment to Hubei province the first time around. Dr. Zhang Weining led the No.6 intensive care group of the supporting team from Shaanxi and, together with his 14 group members, held fast to their positions in Wuhan No.9 People’s Hospital, a designated COVID-19 hospital, for as long as 55 days. During the hard campaign, the group overcame difficulties to find efficient solutions and received 117 severely-critically-ill patients, including 69 severely-ill patients and 48 critically-ill patients, with 65 cured (21 severely-ill and 44 critically-ill). Dr. Zhang stuck to his original mind as a doctor and hero in harm’s way, showing the precious qualities as a party member, such as loyalty, sense of responsibility, selflessness and fearlessness at the frontier of the combat to the virus.

Dr. Zhang is an outstanding model of the 13 thousand medical staff from UM. At present, all UM medical staff still hold fast to their positons to support recovery of work, production and schooling, providing quality healthcare to local residents.
